Did you know that the Corvallis School District is 1 of 13 Spanish Dual Language Immersion programs in the US?! It would certainly be an understatement to say we are proud of this! This includes Garfield Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, Linus Pauling Middle School, and Corvallis High School.
Our Dual Language Immersion (DLI) programs started small in 2001, grew to operate completely in 2012 and, as of the 2016-17 school year, every single Garfield and Lincoln Elementary school classroom is a part of the DLI program. DLI programs begin in Kindergarten.
The DLI programs aim to ease the transition of ELL (English Language Learners) in our district. The majority of the Corvallis School District’s DLI students are Native Spanish Speakers.
We want all of our ELL to walk into their school’s library with an abundance of literary choices. However, we don’t have nearly enough books for our Native Spanish Speakers and we need your help! The Guadalajara International Book Fair is quickly approaching, and we want someone from the Corvallis School District to attend and represent us!
“The Guadalajara International Book Fair, better known as the FIL (from its Spanish name: Feria Internacional del Libro de Guadalajara) is the most important annual event of its kind in the Spanish-speaking world, and the second largest book fair in the world after Frankfurt‘s. The purpose of the FIL is to provide an optimal business environment for the book-industry professionals and exhibitors who attend the fair, and for the reading public eager to meet authors and pick up the latest entries in the market.”
This event is essential to expanding our Spanish library and we sincerely hope that you may be able to help! Our ELL need our support. Please help by clicking the link below and donating to our efforts in sending a Corvallis School District representative to the Guatelajara Book Fair!
