When Tim Slotta was in high school, creating a legacy grant for future Corvallis High School students was the furthest thing from his mind. At the time, he joked that he was more focused on pulling pranks and counting down the days until graduation than appreciating the opportunities around him.

It wasn’t until years later that Tim fully realized the value of the education he received at Corvallis High School, from the dedicated educators to the quality facilities and programs that helped shape his future. That realization inspired him to create The CHS Class of ’79 Spartan Fund, an endowed fund supporting Corvallis High School students through the Corvallis Public Schools Foundation. To bring the idea to life, he reached out to former class president, Katherine Berry, to collaborate.

The CHS Class of ’79 Spartan Fund will provide lasting support for CPSF grants that enrich the student experience at CHS. The fund may support STEM, art, music, academic assistance, athletics, college and career-readiness programs, and other student-centered initiatives that prepare students for success both in school and beyond.

Tim, Katherine, and members of the CHS Class of 1979 will present the CHS Class of ’79 Spartan Fund to Corvallis High School in 2029, during their 50th reunion celebration.

The effort has already received meaningful support from classmates, including a significant gift from Marie Brown. Reflecting on her experience in Corvallis schools, Brown shared:

“The fantastic education I got from kindergarten through high school in the Corvallis school system was my launching pad for the life I live now. What I hope for future generations is art and music and shop classes, as well as well-funded sports programs.”

Tim and Katherine say they have been encouraged by the enthusiasm and engagement the fund has already generated among classmates. Together, they look forward to creating a lasting legacy that will support Corvallis High School students for generations to come.
